Dan stole my 40 acres and a mule

Dan, sorry we got cut off tonight. Fox, Alaska is not known for its fine cell reception although at the spring there along the road usually I can get service. You got my mind turning on song lyrics. Orphans of God is good. And haunting. And a little spooky when you're not under the influence of psychotropic drugs. Which I recommend avoiding. Right now, I wanna rap a little about Caedmons. Yeah. Let me drop that beat.

Out on these Texas plains you can see for a million lives
And there's a thousand exits between here and the state line
About the last time that I saw you
You said call me Pandora, call me a fool
And I'm thinking this view it could do you some good
So drop these scales and take a look

There's forty acres and redemption to be found
Just along the way
There is a place where no plow blade has ever turned the ground
And you will turn it over, 'cause out here hope remains
'Cause out here hope remains...

Out here the Texas sky is as big as the sea
And your alone in your room like an island floating free
Your spirit's hanging in a bottle out on a tree
You say that you're the black sheep, I say you're still family
So throw that bottle to the waves
They'll bring you in to me and the shore you will see

Out here the Texas rain is the hardest I've ever seen
It'll wash your house away, but it'll also make you clean
Now these rocks they are crying too
And this whole land is calling out for you

I dont know what it is, but:
1. I love the music
2. I love the chorus
3. I love the redemption.

Good men caught up in something bad, able to turn their direction around. Its powerful.

Its our lifes work, worked out for the provision of ourselves and families and also for the benefit of others. I swear this kinda stuff has been on my mind a ton lately for some reason.

I want 40 acres with a pond to fish in, and a cabin, and a little grass strip to land a plane in. And a dirt road that bends around and dissapears back to where a 24 hour Bojangles will be.

Whew. I feel better now.

I've always particularly liked the line in this song, "It'll wash your house away, but it'll also make you clean"

I really liked them a lot more when Derek Webb and Aaron Tate were writing most of the songs, with the occasional Rich Mullins cover song.

40 acres was mostly written by Webb and Tate and they did a Rich cover.

and the song you list is indeed great...

dan. whats your forty acres?

I imagine you, holed up in this impressive RV way back in the woods, yet down by a river. perched just outside a small college town with a pub where you meet with other inklings and talk about how nasty 'strongbow' cider is.

you'd have a study the size of a olympic sized pool with many leatherbound books, with golden emboss on the pages edge. a place that smells of rich mahogany, and also of easy mac.

with books littered across the front yard, and articles and clippings from english journals. there would be fun noodles there.
and also old high ropes equipment and the key to that old green golfcart that no longer goes in reverse...
